Homeschooling the children is an important issue that is the subject of many discussions. Parents argue that the standard in the public schools is not the same as it used to be; hence they would rather have their child schooled at home in order for them to have a direct supervision over the quality education. In the case of special children, homeschooling is not a matter of choice but of need. But part of home schooling is consenting to a home school inspection that ensures that you are working within proper guidelines.
The state also requires that the curriculum for homeschooled children is in accordance with the established programs required for and practiced in the conventional schools. Parents or qualified instructors who take on the responsibility of home schooling are held to these standards in an effort to provide the highest quality education possible for each student. Usually, the state education authorities will conduct a site inspection before giving the approval for the home school to commence operation. The home inspections are done on a regular basis in order to ensure that the standards set forth by the state are observed and maintained at all times during the duration of the home school period.
Educators are often observed periodically in traditional schools and a home school inspection is similar to this practice. But a home school inspection also takes into account the home environment as a setting conducive to effective learning. Inspectors will look for a quiet "classroom" setting specifically reserved for home schooling; it should be an environment that fosters concentration, creativity, and learning.
Aside from the ocular inspection of the physical structure and conditions, inspection coverage will include the availability and adequacy of the standard teaching paraphernalia and materials that are being used for and by the home student. All material should generally support and further the curriculum established by the school district.
The purpose of home school inspection is to promote and safeguard the interest of the students. This should be the paramount consideration that parents should inculcate in their minds above and over any perception of intrusion into their privacy. Remember that home schooling is a responsibility and should be treated as such. The parents therefore should help the inspectors do their job which is in the first place for the benefit of the student child.
