The problem with the educational system is that facilities are lagging behind population growth and parents rightly consider the option of home schooling. In fact, the number of home schooled children is expected to exceed the million mark in the next few years.
There are many teaching styles and methods that are accepted in the educational system, with each having the common goal of providing the best education to the students. There is this company, the SFK Media Specially for Kids Corporation that developed the ReadEnt at-home learning program, which is a good reference material for home schooling. The learning program emphasizes the need to learn about home schooling rules and regulations at your state. This is because each state has their respective educational laws.
Involve your child in the curriculum. They can give clues on what materials will work best, just be careful to limit the choices to his/her grade level. The desired end is to give him a sense of belonging so that he will be in the right frame of mind for the program.
Choose a study place at home and furnish it as may be necessary. It should be someplace that is comfortable and free of distractions. Join a group of home schooling parents in your area, or you can start one if there is none. Such groups often organize field trips, discuss approaches to home schooling and share stories and advice.
Keep your child active. Children will miss the environment of a classroom so they must be given opportunities to socialize. Engaging in a hobby or sports or are good opportunities to meet and mingle with other children.
Take advantage of opportunities to give lessons. For example, if you bake cookies at home, ask your child how many you baked. If you take a walk to the park, turn it into a lesson in science and nature.
Take advantage of materials that have educational values. Reading Movies, for example, improve reading, comprehension and vocabulary skills and are entertaining at the same time. These interactive movies use a patented technology called Action Captions in which each spoken word appears on the screen in real time, without interfering with the flow or entertainment of the movie. As a result, reading and spoken language skills develop naturally.
