Statistics from the United Nations indicate that as of the month of November 2011, the earth's population has reached an all time high of 7 billion people, and this number is said to grow exponentially as the years go by. The report also reveals that out of the 7 billion people in the world, 60 percent of them live in Asia.
What do these statistics represent for the millions of young people and graduating students out there, particularly those in Asia? It may be a bitter pill to swallow, but together with the increasing population also comes the increasing difficulty of obtaining a job after graduation. This is because the employment field will have a high degree of saturation after the younger generations graduate from school. For now, one of the ways to increase their chances of obtaining a course related job is to do well in school and let their excellent scholastic records give them the upper hand over their competition.
But how can a student do well in the classroom setting if there are learning gaps brought about by an vague understanding of some of the subjects being taught? Does this mean that the student simply has a learning problem? And is there a way to remedy this problem to help students reach their full potential?
It may not be a well known fact, but most students fail to do well in school not because they have a learning incapacity, but because they just need additional time and guidance to fully absorb an idea. And more often than not, this need is not met in the classroom setting for the reason that the manner of instruction is more suited for a group of students and not for the unique needs of each individual.
