Every teacher, regardless of the level he or she is teaching in, has great responsibilities. It's not merely about knowing the subject that they teach. Teachers are also expected to bond with their pupils and guide them in every possible way. Whatever they say or do often leaves a permanent impact on the pupils. So they need to be their best person all the time, whether they are in the classroom or out in the streets.
If you are thinking of entering the teaching profession, you should be truly dedicated to the role. A teaching job isn't just a fancy thought that you get. It's a lifetime obligation with grand rewards if you genuinely care about your role. If you don't have qualities that all teachers must possess, you won't last in the job even if you love teaching.
First, every teacher should have patience. A teacher without it surely won't survive in the role. Remember, you are dealing with kids and not-so-little kids five days a week. You will be unhappy in your teaching post and you will also make your pupils depressed if you don't have patience.
A positive attitude always helps. Because you are handling those who wish or need to learn, you have to give them motivation. If you can't be positive for their sake, you will be bringing them down.
Teachers don't always have a sense of humor, but that's what distinguishes great teachers from good ones. A teacher should know when everything must be dealt seriously, but a timely sense of humor relieves stress in the class and makes learning more motivating.
Creativity is a truly useful instrument in instructing. Teachers will certainly lose the attention of the class if they teach their students in the same tedious style all the time. And while it is their duty to listen to get their grades up, you should be able to help them in any means you can.
A teacher's job is not a glamour desk job. The teaching position requires you to get your hands dirty and worm your way into your students' life to help them grow and learn. It is for you if only you are prepared to commit yourself fully and emotionally.
