Fastest Methods to Learn Japanese

by Fabienne Jensen

Of all the languages, Japanese ranks as one of the hardest to learn. The challenge lies in understanding the pictograph form of alphabet and an entirely different form of grammar that you may be used to. At first, learning Japanese can seem difficult but as you progress your knowledge will rise, as well as your confidence. What you need to focus on when learning a new language are the strategies and the learning process that is responsible for your progress; when you do this you can take a hard to learn language like Japanese and turn into the new language that you speak. Below are a few of the exact techniques that will take you from overwhelmed to a fluent Japanese speaker in less time than you think.

You have to figure out the way you learn best. One learning style that is best for some people is to listen to as much as possible and then phonetically write it out.You may, however, be someone who wants to start out by learning how to write out the characters of the alphabet. Whichever method you prefer, it's best if you can decide on one or the other when it comes to a language with an entirely different alphabet than the one you're familiar with. If you switch back and forth, you will find that you'll be making the process even more difficult than it has to be. You understand your learning style better than anybody else, so choose your strength and start with that.

You also have to learn the basic characters used in Japanese. Don't worry about spelling at first, but become familiar with symbols and how they are pronounced. At least then you can always make a good effort and writing down something you are trying to say. This technique will help if you go to Japan before you are fluent in the language. This basic skill of being able to write phonetically in the new language can be a great tool for communicating and it's also the first step in learning how to read in Japanese.

Listen to your Japanese language learning CDs and mp3s when you are doing other things. It's great to listen and study while you are consciously trying to learn, of course. But you can also learn by using the subconscious mind. So you can have your tapes or mp3 programs playing while you do other things, whether it's cleaning the house, cooking or taking a drive to the store. Every time the vocabulary and phrases are repeated, a part of your mind is taking this in and remembering it. This method works without your having to do much at all, so it's almost effortless learning! You could try what is known as sleep learning, letting the recordings play as you sleep!

We couldn't include all of the methods for learning a language because this is an article and not a book. Everything you need to succeed with your new endeavor is right here and ready for you to take advantage of; use it and you will be ahead of the crowd. Repetition will make you a fluent speaker, but these tips will get you there faster. You will get there!
