The first advantage is that the child will get more time with the teacher. Let's face it, in most schools, the number of students in a class is over twenty. A Teacher may be handling four to five of such classes. This means that a teacher is teaching around 80 to 100 students. It is close to impossible for a teacher to understand the needs of all these people. However, with homeschooling, your child will receive unlimited attention from the teacher.
Another benefit is that your child learns at their own pace. It is a common fact that we all understand things differently. In a normal school, a child has to keep up with the others. In some cases, you will find that a child may understand certain subjects faster than they do others. If they were in a normal school, then they would have to slow down their pace and move with the rest.
Furthermore, you can choose your child's curriculum. A common problem some parents who opt for homeschooling have is that they don't feel comfortable with what their children are learning. They may feel that some certain subjects are given less priority than others. They choose to homeschool their children and incorporate subjects that they feel are important into their curriculum.
The biggest disadvantage with homeschooling is the lack of socialization. In a normal school, a child has to socialize with people. As they grow up, they acquire knowledge on how to make friends and deal with certain issues. A homeschooled child, lives in a kind of 'bubble' where they do not have to socialize with people. Therefore, they miss out on acquiring basic socialization skills.
Another problem that arises with homeschooling is that the child may not get access to high quality education. Granted, it may be better than most schools, but it will still be lacking. Furthermore, if the child only has on teacher, you cannot expect the teacher to be great at every subject. In most cases, they will be lacking experience in certain areas.
