Learning German is not as hard as people will tell you that it is. The fact is we all have the ability to learn a new language. Learning which method of learning is best for you is the hardest part. We all learn in different ways. Successfully learning a new language comes naturally for some while others will struggle to learn the details of the language. One of the best ways to learn a language like German is to find a friend or someone close to you who is a perfect German speaker. When you find someone who thinks and speaks in German, you will be able to form good habits. Learning from a German speaker who is close to you offers you the benefit of being extremely comfortable in front of them so you won't be afraid to make any language blunders in front of them. That's not to mention the fun factor when you learn with someone who is close to you. When you learn German with a friend, that friend will best know how to tailor the lesson plans for you because they'll be familiar with your learning style.
Look and listen to some German TV or movies. When you start doing this you can turn on the movie's subtitles. After you become acquainted with the language you can switch off the subtitles. You will discover that you understand more than you thought you would. Watching German television and movies is a stupendous tactic for getting to know the language as it is being spoken nowadays. Classroom learning usually teaches the formalized version of the language and not the language as it is being used in everyday conversations (books are unable to do this, due to the spoken language being ever-changing). Movies and TV show will allow you to learn current slang and other cultural things that you wouldn't be capable of learning in a classroom setting or by taking an individual course.
Perhaps there is a town near you comprised of many German speakers. You may find that going to a town like that often will help you. You will find that this is a great way to immerse yourself with other German speakers while keeping close to home in case you feel too much like a fish out of water. When you visit a town like this, you get the benefit of hearing German the way it is spoken by people who actually live in Germany, or wherever else German is the main language. There is a huge difference between the German spoken by native German speakers and the German you learn about in text books. Learning to speak it in a non-formal setting will help you feel better if you are ever end up visiting a German speaking country.
There are tons of things you can do to make learning German an easier venture. Don't get too fed up with it. Learning a new language can be so darned difficult! As long as you do a little bit each day, and you put in the work that's required to learn a new language, you'll conquer German before you know it. ?
