Three steps are to be completed in the in order to complete the Phlebotomist Certification Program. Firstly, a post secondary education is required, along with education in this field and finally the certification course. A written exam is required before an applicant can be certified. The job involves taking blood samples and basic testing of blood. Nurses that work in blood donor centers also have to complete this course. The other name for it is a venipuncturist.
The states in America all have different requirements in terms of levels of achievement for this certificate. While there is not a legal requirement for this, common sense tells one that it is handy for the purposes of acquiring work. This shows that the candidate has some level of experience.
Online courses are available in this subject. In America, three associations govern this industry. The mission statement may be similar for all three of these bodies; however there will be subtle variations.
It could take anything from 4-8 months to complete a course. Forty hours of practical is required before completion. The practical training involves drawing blood on 1000 different occasions. The exam is the final step of the process. The theoretical section involves human anatomy, the circulatory system, processing of specimen and laboratory procedures.
Part of these governing association's duties is to issue certificates. These certificates are helpful in ensuring qualified members are able to find employment. It would be better for the student if one or more of these associations are linked to the learning institution of choice. It is recommended that if this is not the case that one look to another learning institution to work through in order to become qualified.
A clinical practice component is present in each of the programs that are available. This kind of experience can be obtained by helping out, even on a voluntary basis, at a hospital, nursing home, or a doctors office. The student will be under supervision of a supervisor during this process. The supervisor will have to evaluate the student and write a report. This recommendation will be placed on file to be conveyed to the consolidator.
Once the student has graduated, a written exam will be required by all three of the associations. These exams will cover all necessary components of the job description. Once this is completed, the student will receive a certificate.
Many people who complete the Phlebotomist Certification Program go one to even bigger things within the medical fraternity. There are many other forms of medicine that one can choose to do. When this decision has been made, one would need to study and pass the appropriate medical course that he or she has chosen.
