Convenience may be the number one reason students want to go to college online. These future grads know they will have the freedom to create their own study schedule, while still working a full-time job or attending other responsibilities. For those who are interested, but haven't taken the plunge yet, looking at free college degree materials will show a new scholarship opportunity is available for a free online class.
Now students who want to try online learning can get a scholarship for an ACE recommended college course. Scholarship companies and various online colleges have partnered together to give students a chance to try out online college for free. The student is free to transfer the credit to any participating online college; there is never an obligation to enroll in a certain school. The student is free to accept or reject any participating school.
The scholarship does have certain application requirements that must be met. In addition to being a U.S. citizen 18 years or older, applicants must have a high school diploma or a GED. They can't already have a bachelor's degree or be enrolled in college currently. They will also have to pass a college entrance exam to make sure that they can complete college-level work.
The scholarship is for one college level class. The curriculum is not intended to be easy or an automatic A. Each class is designed by college professors and faculty to meet certain requirements that participating universities stipulate. If a student is not willing to put in at least six to eight hours of study time per week, they may not successfully complete the class.
Each class that is covered by the scholarship is about five weeks long. As a general rule, the classes that are offered are either an intro to psychology class or an English composition class. These two classes are the most frequently offered because most colleges and universities require them in order to graduate.
If a student for some reason cannot complete the class, they needn't worry. It won't affect their GPA for classes taken at a later date. Only credits that are transferred will affect a student's GPA.
Students who desire the interaction of people and a classroom environment may not do well in an online college setting. Additionally, students who need an instructor or professor to push them along may not do well. Online college is better suited to students who are able to set deadlines and goals and stick to them without outside prodding.
