by John Roney

Why is the CNA License mandatory for offering nursing cares? In the United States of America, the federal authorities have made it mandatory for the nurse aides to posses a CNA License (or Certification) to safeguard the public health and welfare. In order to implement the federal provisions, the congress has also passed a legislation OBRA-87 and mandates every state to evaluate the competency of the nurse aides. The possession of the License also proves that the nursing assistant holding a nurse aide certification is well qualified in the nursing care skills, knowledge and abilities for offering the safe, quality and competent cares to the patients.

Schools providing certification programs accept students with and without prior care giving experience. Part of the certification training program includes clinical field work to allow the students to graduate with some hands-on experience. What requirements are necessary for admittance to a certified nursing aide or home health aide program? High School Diploma or GED, English and Math Skills, Criminal Background Check, Drug Test

Most programs are from 4 to 8 weeks long and part-time evening programs are also available. Each state regulates the nursing aide exam process and requires the state exam to be passed before certification is granted. Students are able to take practice exams prior to taking the official state exam.

With around 10 years of experience, you could earn as much as $49,000. But if you continue your education and become one step higher in the chain as a RN, you could earn as much as $70,000 annually.
